We Need Your Help To Recognize Educators and Partners With an Excellence in Geospatial Award for 2026!
Please use the form below where you can nominate a deserving educator or partner.

The Excellence in Geospatial Education Awards recognize individuals and organizations that have provided exemplary support to students, educators or two-year college programs focused on geospatial technology. The awards program was developed by the GeoTech Center more than 10 years ago to focus on two-year college geospatial educators and partners as there were few opportunities to give recognition to these educators and partners for their exceptional work. More than 25 Awards have been presented to educators and partners and we plan to continue to make awards, but we need your help.

Please help support educators and partners by nominating them for an award.  Nominations can be submitted any time via a simple online form. We will close the nominations each award year on April 15 and awardees will be selected by the Nomination Committee by May 1. Awardees will receive notice of their award and will be asked if they would like to present during the awards ceremony at the GeoEd Conference.

There are three Award categories, two for individuals: (1) Lifetime Achievement in Two-year College Geospatial Education; and (2) Distinguished Geospatial Educator; and (3) a Distinguished Geospatial Education Partner award for an industry or government organization.  The details for each award are listed below.

Rules for Nominating and Selecting Awards:
Nomination:  Each award category specifies the nomination requirements for the specific award.  Any individual (over 18 years of age) may make one nomination for each of the award categories per year.  Self nominations are allowed but must include a letter supporting the nomination by another qualified individual.  Each nomination can be submitted online on this form and will include:
  1. Name, organization, mailing address, email address and phone number of individual making the nomination.
  2. The name and contact information (organization, address, email address and phone) for the person being nominated.
  3. The Award Category for the nomination.
  4. A short description of why the nominee should receive the award.
  5. If a self-nomination, a letter of support from another person including their contact information.

Nomination Committee:  An Associate Director of the GeoTech Center is the Nomination Committee Chair.  The GeoTech Center PI and other CoPIs serve as the nomination committee.  Meetings of the Committee will be held virtually after the close of nominations in April.  Voting may be done by email ballot.  Each member of the Nomination Committee will have one vote per award.  The nominee with the highest total votes shall be selected for the award.  If two nominations are deemed a tie by the Committee, two awardees may be selected for that award. Nominations may be held over one year to the next year’s award at the discretion of the Nomination Committee. The decisions of the Committee are final.  Committee members that feel they have a conflict of interest in selecting an Award category shall be excused from selecting that Award.  Nominations shall be kept confidential and committee members should not disclose discussions unless permitted by rules of order or laws.
