Getting Started with Open Educational Resources
July 20-22, 2021
Adam Dastrup

Workshop Description: Open Educational Resources (OER) are freely accessible, openly licensed texts, images, and other forms of media used for teaching, learning, assessment, and scholarship. OER allows educators to reuse, remix, and redistribute Creative Commons licensed material to their students. Ultimately, OER reduces textbook costs for students, affords instant access to course resources on the first day of class, and provides an opportunity for faculty to create inclusive content that allows students to see themselves in the course material. Over three days, participants attending this workshop will learn how to:
  • Explore how to search for existing Creative Commons licensed material and OER resources.
  • Organize a workflow on how to create and organize OER material.
  • Learn how to find digital images and media that are openly licensed as Creative Commons.
  • Appropriately license OER material with the correct Creative Commons license.
  • Discover various ways to publish OER material.

Mapbox Studio
August 11-12, 2021
TBA

Workshop Description: Mapbox is a live location data platform powering maps and navigation experiences for mobile, web, gaming, and automotive. The Mapbox Education program works with instructors and students across disciplines to connect the classroom to the latest that the Mapbox platform has to offer: Design beautiful maps in Mapbox Studio, develop interactive web maps with Mapbox GL JS, and use Mapbox APIs and kits to build location-based games and mobile apps. During the first session, you will learn to work with Mapbox Studio. Throughout the tutorial, you will learn to upload custom data to Mapbox Studio, add it to a template style, use filters to style your data, and publish and share your map designs! The second session will focus on creating a storytelling map and creating a basic web map with interactivity.
