Q Methodology Section

These research studies used Q Methodology to determine the perceptions of professionals towards technical competencies located within conceptual models. Q Methodology is an accepted approach to reveal individual subjectivity. Q Methodology is a mixed methods approach, combining both factor analysis and participant statements to develop viewpoints. Q Methodology has been used in studies to determine stakeholder perspectives and is valued for its ability to quantify viewpoints. Moreover, it supported the use of industry experts to evaluate a conceptual model of competencies.

The purpose of these studies is to explore the viewpoints of professionals toward various competency models. By determining the viewpoints toward these competencies, the researcher can better understand how practitioners perceive a competency standard. Workforce competencies are a component within curriculum development, professional certification, and workforce requirements. Also, the identification of commonalities across viewpoints may reveal widely held beliefs within the field. The results of these research studies could help to redefine the technical competencies receiving attention moving forward and assist in the professional preparation of our students as they transition into the workforce.
